YADA Activities at African level

The main objective of YADA is to connect, protect, support and build the capacity of young African human rights defenders operating in Africa or living outside the continent (as African diaspora members).

As a platform of young activists’ movements and individual human rights defenders in Africa, YADA will speak as a voice of youth on human rights, democracy and good governance issues in Africa.

YADA Activities at African level

  • YADA annual workshop: where YADA members meet, share experiences from their respective countries and evaluate the YADA activities and reports. During this workshop, the YADA general meeting is held to make essential decisions, plan future activities and elect new coordination team and commissions members and then, decide in which the following annual workshop would take place.

  • Thematic groups meetings: Networking and exchange meeting for young defenders working on similar activities to meet, share experiences and get empowered through specific trainings. For instance, those working on civil rights and democracy or gender equality or minority rights or environmental rights and climate change, etc. will meet for their specific trainings.

  • Online TV and Radio specific: to broadcast human rights information and news on the activities of defenders around the continents. This is in the line of the YADA objective of fighting fake news at the continent.
  • 24/7 Digital Security Support: this include digital tools and tactics for online campaigns, petition, use of safe social media platforms and online visibility through free and safe websites.

  • Training of Trainers (ToT):

    • Trainings on drafting project proposals and management of human rights projects
    • Trainings on digital security, tools and tactics: how to protect your date; safe use of internet; how do effective online campaigns, petitions and safe use of social media etc.

  • Commemoration of key international human rights days including women days, children's day, human rights days, etc. ;
