YADA ANNUAL WORKSHOP 2021

Under the initiative of the organization Africa Human Rights Network (AHRN) based in Dar Es Salaam, a workshop bringing together young people from different countries of the African continent was organized in Dar Es Salaam from 02 to 15 July 2021. As a result of this workshop, the Young African Defenders in Action network was created.
This workshop brought together young people from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, Burundi, Togo, Benin, Chad, Central African Republic and Tanzania.

GROUP WORK OF THE WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS

During the group work organized during the workshop of the young African defenders gathered in Dar Es Salaam, several themes were the subject of reflections including the constitution of the YADA network, the code of conduct, the conditions of admission and exclusion, the organization of the elections of the members of the various commissions, the mandates of the animators, the activities to be organized at the African level and at the national level according to the context of each country, ...

MOMENTS OF ENTERTAINMENT AND RELAXATION

African human rights defenders often go through great pressure, stress and other challenges related to their work as defenders. They make these disclosures during moments of sharing experiences with each other. That is why we offer them moments of relaxation and entertainment during their stay with us.

ACTIVISTS - LAB Africa : FIRST DAY OF THE WORKSHOP

In February, the AHRN Foundation hosted three workshop that brought together 21 young HRDs representing 14 countries to share experiences and discuss various topics related to their activities in their respective countries. In a consortium of AHRN, OXFAM NOVIB, JUSTICE and PEACE NETHERLANDS and PAX as well as other partners from Asia and South-America, we want to empower young activists and accompany them in their campaigns for social change and human rights promotion. These partners will work together to support young activists, through a global project called ACTIVIST LAB.

#BreakTheBias

The main theme of the workshop was capacity building and experience sharing among youth working on gender equality in Africa. Among the issues that were the subject of great exchanges, there was necessarily gender equality and respect for minorities. Thus, the hashtag #BreakTheBias was unanimously adopted by the participants as a symbol of their exchanges.

After this workshop, the activists back in their respective countries will organize activities to celebrate the International Women’s Day, under the label of the YADA Network

Participant presentations

The main objective of this project is to facilitate connection, strengthen the capacities of young human rights defenders and encourage/accompany their efforts to continue their human rights work.

Ten themes were raised by the participants. The activists were regularly divided into work groups according to the fields in which they work in their respective countries
